Cannabis Counsellor Certification Requirements

GCEW Certified Cannabis Education Counsellor™

1. Complete All Training Components

  • All stages of the GCEW Certification Program
  • Full training manual (Sections 1–9)
  • All required learning modules and materials

2. Demonstrate Core Knowledge

Participants must demonstrate understanding of:

  • The Endocannabinoid System (ECS)
  • Cannabinoids (THC, CBD, minor cannabinoids)
  • Cannabis delivery methods
  • Dosing literacy principles (Start Low, Go Slow)
  • The GCEW Cannabis Literacy Model™

3. Demonstrate Applied Understanding

Participants must be able to:

  • Explain cannabis concepts in simple, client-friendly language
  • Guide a structured cannabis education session
  • Apply the GCEW counselling workflow in practice
  • Support safe, informed, and responsible decision-making

4. Complete Practical Application

Participate in:

  • Mock consultations
  • Case study reviews
  • Scenario-based learning

Demonstrate communication skills and client interaction ability.

5. Engage with GCEW Tools & Systems

Participants must demonstrate ability to:

  • Review client intake forms
  • Support wellness goal setting
  • Guide tracking and reflection
  • Maintain structured session documentation

6. Complete Client Education Pathway

  • Foundations of cannabis literacy
  • ECS education
  • Product and method selection concepts
  • Dosing education principles
  • Building a personalized wellness strategy

7. Competency Areas

Certification is awarded based on demonstrated competency in:

  • Cannabis literacy education
  • Client communication skills
  • Ethical boundaries and scope of practice
  • Harm reduction and safety awareness
  • Structured counselling delivery

8. Professional Standards

  • Education-Based Practice — Provide education, not medical advice. Maintain clear professional boundaries.
  • Ethical Responsibility — Communicate responsibly. Avoid medical claims. Refer to healthcare providers when appropriate.
  • Client-Centered Approach — Respect individual differences. Support informed decision-making.
  • Confidentiality & Professionalism — Protect client information. Maintain secure documentation.

9. Scope Reminder

Certification does NOT authorize:

  • Diagnosing medical conditions
  • Prescribing cannabis or treatment
  • Providing medical advice

This program is strictly education-based.

10. Certification Award

Upon successful completion, participants receive the GCEW Certified Cannabis Education Counsellor™ Certificate, recognizing that the individual has:

  • Completed the GCEW Cannabis Literacy Program™
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Cannabis Literacy Model™
  • Met all certification and competency standards

Graduates may present themselves as:

"A GCEW Certified Cannabis Education Counsellor™ specializing in cannabis literacy, client education, and responsible use guidance."
